Die Nomadische Universität veranstaltet in Graz eine Oase mit dem Titel „China goes Europe”. Abgesehen von den zahlreichen Wirtschaftskooperationen zwischen Europa und China ist ein weiterer Aspekt für diese Oase interessant: Die Cultural Policy von China ist es, weltweit und auch in Europa Konfuzius Institute zu errichten. Die historischen und kulturellen Entwicklungen von China werden in dieser Oase in Graz denen von Europa gegen-übergestellt. Die Studierenden bekommen einen Einblick in Erfahrungen von KuratorInnen, KünstlerInnen und Wirtschaftstreibenden mit China. In einer differenziert angelegten Serie von Vorträgen und Diskussionen erhalten die TeilnehmerInnen einen tiefen Einblick in die aktuellen Entwicklungen von China. Während eines speziellen Think Tanks werden die Teil-nehmerInnen die weltweit entstehenden Konfuzius Institute mit den lokalen kulturellen Gegebenheiten diskutieren und die Chancen und Möglichkeiten herausarbeiten. Die historischen, ästhetischen, kulturellen, wirtschaftlichen und bildenden Implikationen werden dabei besonders berücksichtigt. Eine derartige Exploration generiert ein Wissen, das für alle europäischen BürgerInnen zukünftig von großer Relevanz sein wird. Unter den verschiedenen Aspekten werden auch die postkolonialen Sichtweisen diskutiert und in Beziehung zur zeitgenössischen kulturellen Entwicklung Asiens gestellt.
Die Nomadische Universität kooperiert in Graz mit der Universität Graz, Stadt Graz, Land Steiermark, Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft und Forschung, SINOplex, CSEND – Genf, AVL Cultural Foundation und der Botschaft der Volksrepublik China in Wien.
The nomadic university organizes an oasis by the name of “China goes Europe” in Graz. Apart from the numerous economic co-operations between Europe and China, an aspect of special interest to the oasis will be China’s cultural policy to establish Confucius Institutes all over the world. The oasis in Graz will exhibit the historic and cultural developments of China alongside those of Europe. Students will learn through the experiences that curators, artists and economists have had with China. Through a series of lectures and discussions all participants will get a deep insight into China’s and the Greater China´s area present day developments. During a special think tank they will chart out opportunities by discussing the Confucius Institutes and the local cultures they are built in. Special emphasis will be put on the historic, aesthetic, cultural, economic and educational implications. An exploration of this kind will generate knowledge, that will be highly relevant to all European nations. Europe’s post-colonial points of view and attitudes will, among various other aspects, be discussed and put into the context of contemporary cultural developments of Asia.
The Nomadic University cooperates with the University of Graz, National Chen Chi University, the City of Graz, Government of Styria, the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research, SINOplex, CSEND - Geneva, AVL Cultural Foundation and the Embassy of the People’s Republic in China.

next – Verein für bildende Kunst hat mit seinen interdisziplinären artists in residence Projekten ein internationales Netzwerk geschaffen. Über 190 KünstlerInnen aus den Ländern Österreich, Deutschland, Schweden, Finnland, Großbritannien, Belgien, Niederlande, Spanien, Frankreich, Italien, Slowenien, Kroatien, Bosnia i Herzegowina, Serbien, Ungarn, Czech Republic, Rumänien, Griechenland, Malta, Iran, Brasil, USA und Kanada, beteiligten sich.
15 Jahre Kulturarbeit bedeuten nicht nur Bilanz zu ziehen, sondern auch einen Blick in die Zukunft zu werfen. Ein wesentliches Resultat der Arbeit ist das internationale Netzwerk, das anhand eines lebendigen Beispieles dargestellt wird: KünstlerInnen aus Kroatien und UniversitätsprofessorInnen der Universität Zadar präsentieren die bereits erfolgreich durchgeführten gemeinsamen Kooperationen.
